I built a mount from the frame on the drivers side that will accept an 4.5 ft tiger stick to a 108 inch whip. The whip is better but you have the thing up in the air when putting it into the garage. Most of the time I use the Tiger stick and have all of the power I need.
I agree that the higher the antenna, the better you will be. I have a magnetic mount antenna which has a 44" whip. I need to be able to remove the antenna at times. My last trip was over the 4th of July weekend. On the way home, there was a 10+ mile back-up south of where I was (about 20 miles ahead) and I could hear the truckers warning everyone about the jam. That's a good antenna, if you ask me. I got off at the next exit and took another road paralleling the interstate.

I thought CBs went out with the "Mullet," disco and the "Dukes of Hazzard." Do people really still use these things? I would be afraid to say "good buddy" on the air now days.
They're still very much in use. I wouldn't travel without one. All the truckers have them and use them - they're very helpful in warning you of traffic jams, speed traps, etc. The phrase "good buddy" has gone by the way-side. It's best to just say "driver" nowadays, such as "Thanks, driver, for that info."
