2003 4X4 Steering problem

I just purchased a 2003 4X4 F250 Diesel. When going down the highway, I get a feeling of over steer. There seems to be a little steering wheel movement before the truck responds. I have checked the ball joints and they feel tight. The lowers are greaseable so I greased those. Someone has mentioned a steering sensor, but I haven't located that yet.

Any ideas guys would be appreciated. Thanks Jim

Welcome to FTE!

Steering sensor? Maybe they meant a steering stabilizer?

Also, you may want to have your alignment checked. A bad caster angle can cause the steering to feel twitchy with no "on center" feel.

Fixed caster and camber on 4x4. Can only check toe in. Haven't done that yet. Thanks for the reply. Jim

The caster and camber on a 4x4 can be changed by shims under the springs and eccentric bushings in the ball joints. Sounds like it is need of an alignment by a good alignment shop.

I would check the tie rod ends. I found it worked best with one person turning the wheel and another underneath to find the problem.

If an alignment shop told you the caster and camber are fixed and cannot be adjusted, run away fast.

Thanks Laredo. We were under it last night and it appears tight everywhere.
There appears to be some play in the steering gear box. I think I'll make an appoint at the Dealer and have it checked. Thanks Jim
