72-F100-4V Sorry did not mention that the frame measurement is to be approx C/L of front spindle about C/L between the two mounting bolts.

Thanks

i just stumbled across thes thread and saw you were looking at gauges last month. here is a link to dakota gauges. they make a digital gauge that fits in the stock bezel.

That is awsome!! That takes all of the guess work out of what I was going to do. The price is about right, since it comes with everything to make it work.

Thank you!!

i was in the same boat with a 95 5.8l and a 4r70w. they make the same gauges for the 60-66 trucks that are round, just perfect for are swapes.

marquis/crown vic suspension

I have acquired a 2003 interceptor front end and will be putting it into my 53 F100. My question? What is the trick to getting the four large mounting bolts out of the frame. I took the nuts off but cannot turn or move in any way, these four bolts. I've tried impact gun, breaker bar, etc. and broke a 21mm craftsman socket. What am I doing wrong?

On the subject of gauges I was wondering how hard it would be to make my own guage panel that would fit the 68 ford dash insert but using the grand marquis gauges? At least the wiring would be easier to figure out since I will be using the computer from the car as well as the engine and transmission.

You may not like the answer to that question. Could prove to be a pain in the butt if you're not sure of what you're doing. Measure it up, but I've seen a lot of vehicles where the height of the gauge cluster feels much taller than the truck.

loetismumford69-- Plenty of clearance, I can drive a Mac truck in the space, no issues! Word of caution on this front suspension, and the MN12 rear suspension, it wont work unless you notch the front frame to get it level with the rear. Then you have to raise the cab floor, etc, etc, more work then what its worth. Now if you want to build and brace the rear frame to make the IRS work, then you can use it with this front suspension. I had the IRS all mocked up and its 5-6 inches lower then the frame at level, level is with this front suspension bolted up and a 32 valve mod motor between the rails and 18 inch 2007 Charger steel wheels. I still have everything for the rear suspension, it would work great if you were to run a Mustang II front suspension. You have to do the rear first, then the front to get the rake you want.

!!
Hey 72, nice work! I'm voraciously studying these threads of you guys doing these CV conversions cause I wanna do one on a 66 shorty soon.
Question regarding the IRS: You abandoned the idea because the ride height of the rear was too low to work with the Merc suspension, right? Carcrafter used the IRS in his truck with the CV suspension and says it sits level. What's the difference between yours and his? I wanna figure this out cause it would be fun to use the Mark VIII IRS but not if the tail end is going to be sagging below the front. Please advise.

Thanks for the detailed thread. Also curious to know what you're going to do with the fuel tank, fuel pump, etc. Has anybody tried to run the filler neck out the back behind a fold down liscense plate? It would be great not to have a fuel door on the side of the truck or inside on the bed floor. Just a thought but don't know if it's doable yet.

Nothing is different 72 chose to try the Team 321 brackets while I made my own brackets to mount the IRS.

So you're saying the Team 321 brackets set the unit higher in the frame than you did thus making the truck sit lower?

I am sure it will be a pain but it is a thought since there are no guages made for these trucks that are not digital.

72 I was wondering what kind of headers are you going to put on your truck? You are using a similar motor as I in your truck so I am wondering what headers will fit since it is an unusual match up.

Hey Shoestring, I don't know what 72 is going to use but Sanderson makes headers for the 4.6

I need to catch up on this thread.

As of right now. I am waiting for the weather to clear up. Im still waiting to get the side of my garage concreted in. Got the money, I just need the weather to clear up so I can level the area and get it poured. So the truck is waiting, again. I have the fire wall adapter to get the steering done. I have also been selling stuff on Ebay to finance the electrical stuff that I need. Dokota digital gauge cluster, megasquirt system.

As for the rear end. I did abandon using the team 321 kit, as it placed the brackets lower than the frame set level. Ive covered this in another thread. I do plan on getting the measurements to team321 so they can revise their kit like they have asked, which I have not forgot about. Though im still on the fence about going IRS.

If I could sell what I have at the price I have into it, it would be sold, because I could afford to do all of my electrical work on the truck. So if anyone is interested, shoot me a PM.
