Cool At wits end!!

OK...95 f250 7.3 turbo...last fall replaced injector o rings..within last 2 months started having problems starting it..got ipr rebuild kit..did that..no luck..just replaced fuel pump..no luck..used a squirt of starter fluid to get it running...it runs like brand new once you get it started..no problems at all..lots of power..no smoking..great..shut it off, that's it..no start..just turns over and over..no start...any ideas..I'm about to park this thing out in the field with the old tractors!! Someone told my dad maybe it's the hpop, it's there a way to check that before I buy a new one?? There's no lites or anything that comes on to give a clue as to what it could be...please give me some ideas!!!

I think that the first thing to do is pull any "Codes" that are present as that could point you in the right direction or at least give you some clues.

Also, after it has been running and is up to temperature if you shut it off does it start or does it NOT start after it is cold?

I'd be checking the oil level in the hpop to make sure those injectors are firing. Check fuses (#22 I believe?).

Check fuel pressure.

Are you getting smoke when you crank?

ahhhh... NO STARTING FLUID!!!!!!!!!!!

Check fuel pressure .. use tire gauge if necessary and report back !! Have you changed fuel filter .. etc.

Also check battery's .. these truck need to turn over fast to start, without a squirt of starter fluid.

FPR screen clean? Injector work etc will totally clog a screen and the truck will do stupid stuff. Check fuel psi, check hpop reservoir level (should be within 1/4 inch from the plug). Maybe glow plug related, but since it's summer it shouldn't matter.

Word of advice again...

As stated NO STARTING FLUID, WD 40 OK, Starting fluid will detonate to soon and you can destroy your engine....

I've seen an old allis that had to much ether to her. Blow the head to pieces.

It's ok to use unless you have glowplugs.

I had a 92 F-250 that i used starting fluid on it every morning for 3 years.
It needed it first thing in the morning (winter or summer ) then it was good the rest of the day.

A little snort is not gonna hurt anything.. especially if its pretty cold out.

Vinford, that 92 needed some gp attention if it needed ether in the summer/winter.

All I can say to that is play the lottery, looks like you have luck on your side!

I have seen the International / Ford 6.9 and 7.3's go BOOM a couple of times now, (well actually Bang, Bang, Bang, Rattle, Rattle, Rattle) $4k please...

Note: Other peoples, including a small dealer...

That was a few years ago Ive learned a little more now..........
Someone told me it was going to cost $2500 to fix and I decided I could buy alot of starting fluid for $2500.

But Ive used starting fluid on lots of diffrent engines, small engines, tractors , heavy equipment.
Sometimes its been the only thing that got them running.
It has its uses.
