Question Seat Filter?

I have an `06 Milan and I'm planning to do some maintenance. Rockauto list`s two air filters, an FA1786 and a seat filter FS104. What the heck is a seat filter and where does it go? (I can already hear some of the jokes so spare me.)

Searched it, looks the same. One for 16 valve engine, one for the 8 valve? Beats me.

I know some vehicles have cooled seats, where they blow the air from the climate control through perforations in the seats. They usually have a filter before the seat to keep stuff from clogging up the small airways in the seats. Maybe that is what this is? I'm not sure if the Milan ever offered seats with this option.

I have a 2004 Lincoln LS with seat filters and cabin air filter. If the Milan is like the LS the seat filter is a cheapie screen.

Each seat has one to filter the air cooling the seats. Is is about the size of a woman's open palm and on the LS it is oval shape and flat. It is just a plastic ring with a nylon screen to filter out chunks. It rarely needs cleaning and as long as you don't tear the screen with something, you won't need to replace them.

They are under the seats and twist out of their socket.

Hardest part is finding them since they don't look like what you think a filter looks like. But they are easy to see once you get under there with a flash light.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
