Questions about the Overhead Console Fix

I was reading on older posts about the Overhead console fix,and it was saying if I have lost a resistor to just just a standard 68 0hm. But I got to looking for one and I guess ran into a problem. They have several different wattage on them. So what is the wattage that I need? I found this one,but not really sure if it will work.

Those are the exact resistors I used to repair mine, 1/2 watt 68 ohm from Radio Shack.

They look the same as mine. I just went into Radio Shack and asked for 68 ohm resistors. I didn't know any difference. It's been working great for about 6 months now.

The little OEM surface-mount resistors on the board have too small a wattage rating to do the job they're called upon to do. That's why they get as hot as they do and actually soften their solder joints, and giving us the eventual problem.

Ford would have been better off to have designed the board to use the stand-off, higher-wattage resistors in the first place. But that would have given us reliability, something you don't want in a profitable replacement parts environment.

What Clux recommended above, half-watt resistors, will work better than OEM, as they will handle the heat better, and will take some of the heat away from the joints.

Do a reeeeeeal-nice job with those solder joints! If you're not good at soldering, have a television-repair shop (are there any of these left in America?) or the local ham radio enthusiast solder them in for you.

I've fixed mine in the past & found it pretty easy. I'd be glad to solder it in for ya & could test it on mine before sending it back. I need to pull mine out again & resolder it, so I'd have the console all open. Springer might have hit the nail on the head. I bet those get so hot the solder joints weaken & once SuperDuty vibration kicks in...
PM me if you'd want to do that - I'm in St. Louis area.

Nice avatar, BTW (heh)

The 1/2w. 68ohm are what I used. You might also want to pick up a pack of 62ohm as the other SMT's on the board will fail eventually as well.
