Ok I bought my 04 150 fx4 at the end of February. Well one time I put the truck in 4x4 it kinda slamed in. I thought these were shift on the fly it has the electronic on the dash. Well didnt think anything of it. Yesterday I went to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan well i was climbing these huge hills got to the end put it back in 2 wd just to see if i could make it back to the main trail this was just flat soft sand. Well I started to spin and put it back in 4 wheel and it slamed and it did this a couple times. Now is this something i should take back to the dealer. I mean I got warranty on it through General Electric that the Ford dealer sold me. Or was i mistaken about the shift on the fly.
well I didnt have my foot on the gas when I shifted in to 4 hi. The thing is it dont do it all the time and with the warranty I have its a hundred dollar deductiable so I hate to take it in lose a hundred dollars and they say its nothing
If you are in 2wd and you wait until you start to loose traction to put it in 4wd it is going to slam. The 4x4 shift on the fly is desigined to work when all tires are moving at the same speed. All tires have to be turning at the same speed as the transfer case or else things break.

yep...if you lose traction and the rear tires are just spinning...you need to stop. engage 4x4 and then go.
the 4x4 on fly is designed with all 4 tires rolling at same speed. the only thing that gets spun up suddenly (normally) is the front driveshaft and axleshafts.
