Airdog & FASS

Installed the airdog 150 this weekend and am wondering what people use to block the factory fuel line from the tank. The 150 came with a bigger pick- up tube and suction line to the airdog thus not needing the line from the stock pick-up to the factory pump. I got the install all done and went to fill up, needless to say I had diesel running all over the place. It was coming out by the factory pump from the factory line that was hooked up to the hcfm. Did I not get some fittings?

thanks , Jason

The connections from the tank to the AirDog to the OEM pump replace the OEM fuel line. The fuel you saw was probally reisdual in the line, just cover the ends and monitor.
I disconnected both ends during my install and covered them to prevent dirt contamination.

Actually there was several gallons of fuel on the ground. I drilled a new pick-up into the tank, from there it goes to the Airdog, then to the hcfm. The factory line from the tank to the hcfm is no longer used but still hooked up to the tank and can't be hooked up to the hcfm because the Airdog is hooked up to it now. This probably makes no sense.

thanks anyway, Jason

Hay Heavyassult, if you disconnected both ends of the line wouldn't there be the factory pick-up line on top of the tank wide open to the atmosphere?

I got the AD100 so I use the OEM pickup with my install. I bet you forced fuel out the OEM line since it was still connected at the tank pickup yet not connected to the pump.

I'd remove the OEM line at the tank, cap all open ends on that line. I used some plastic wrap and zip ties, I wrapped it several different times plus added the zip ties to prevent leaking and dirt getting inside. Then locate a tank pickup line adapter at Autozone and cap to close off the tank pickup line.

I just put a fass 180 gph system on my truck, and had left over pick up tube sitting in the frame. I just kinked it for now but will use a compression fitting (like the brass fittings used on boost gauges) with a plug to solve my problem. Does the airdog replace the factory pump or only assist it? mine replaces it, wow what a difference.

do not use the air dog as a stand alone system. you will fry your air dog in no time. go to competition diesel and check it out there.

What kind of fuel pressure are you guys seeing with these systems? Do you have regulated return systems too? This is one of the mods on the "back burner" list, to be done when time and money permit. I'd like to have fuel pressure in the 70-75# range for better atomization and economy.

Unless you are making some serious HP I can't see having over 65PSI for the fuel system.

AirDog is a pusher kit supplying a steady fuel supply to the OEM pump, this is why AirDog has never been sold as a stand alone system. They have a 150GPH kit now for sale for those running big injectors.

I got the ITP RR system yet to be installed should be an excellent finish to my fuel system mods.

I'm running 58-63ish psi at the top of my fuel filter housing on top of the engine. I actually pulled the stock filter out of there for better flow. you need to also pull the plastic stand out of the middle. it is designed to shut off fuel if no filter is in. the FASS filters do a better job than stock anyway. I could change the regulated pressure of the pump with a different spring, but I'm told you could blow an injector 0-ring if you run much over 65 psi. with my setup before the FASS I had @48 psi at the filter housing, and when I dogged on it, it would drop as low as 12 psi- way hard on injectors. now when it drops to 58 psi I'm feeling way better about it. as far as regulated return, I streched the return spring in the filter housing so it would allow higher pressure before return so the FASS could do the returning with the built in return system. If you want to run higher pressure I don't recommend it, but it's very do-able. just write back and I'll explain. I chose FASS p/n 150/180-2014 because it is a stand-alone system, and I wanted to bypass the quick connect fittings on the stock fuel pump because they're extremely restrictive. no problems now. It's nothing to be way impressed with, but I dynoed 483 rwhp just the other day on a dyno they say doesn't inflate numbers. I can't remember the brand, but I'm sure I could call and find out.

I'm using the airdog as a pusher to the stock pump. I did shim the spring in the airdog to bump the pressure up to24psi outpput instead of 10. Then the factory pump bumps it to 65 psi. Hopefully the airdog can handle the mild pressure increase. I also have an itp regulated return system. The airdog and the itp system have deff. helped with the bigger injecters. Now I just need programs for the bigger injectors.
