Instrument gauge problem

Hello, I have a Ford Ranger XL 4x4 2002 V6 automatic. I'm having a problem with my guages. The only guage that is working is the temperature gauge. The fuel gauge is peaked out way past full, the voltage gauge isn't working, the oil pressure gauge isn't working, and the tach isn't working. I pulled out the assembly and noticed there is a board that pulls in and out from behind the cluster, it looks like a mini circuit board and I believe it says "slosh/gage module". It is located on the upper left hand side on the back of the cluster. Could this be the problem? Could this be bad? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Mike

Welcome to FTE.

Sounds like you may have more than one problem.

Is this a flood vehicle????

Did all these instrument gage problems come about slowly, over time, or suddenly after some event????

If suddenly, maybe suspect the clusters electrical connector, coroded, bent, or pushed back pins or sockets.

You could check the temp gauge by grounding it's single wire connection at the temp sending unit & see if it'll peg full scale Hot at KOEO. If so, the gauge & it's electrical connections are likely ok & the gauge single wire temp sensor is likely bad.

From that test you could maybe begin to get a feel for whats going on with the Tach & oil pressure & fuel gauge.

The oil pressure gauge is wired to show mid scale, when the oil pressure is more than about 7psi, so if the gauge isn't reading anything & the engine isn't making any untoward noises, suspect the wiring at the oil pressure sending unit, or the sending unit itself, which is a common problem part for your kid of trouble.

On the fuel level gauge, it could be the slosh sensor, but could be a wiring, or sending unit problem too, so it'll likely need some more troubleshooting to run down.

Check out the instrument cluster electrical connector on the tach problem & let us know what you find, because if the problem isn't there, it'll likely take some more electrical investigation to see where it's signal is being lost.

Just some basic thoughts to maybe get you started on your troubleshoot, let us know what you find.
