Yeah, it was definitely a marine engine.

Anyways, not to hijack the thread.. but I'd love to hear an old stroker that wound up. I'll take our 78' Kenworth up to about 2600 sometimes and it sounds wonderful. Especially with the two jakes when she winds back down during the shift.

Is there any real benefit to running these high rpms?

IF you can keep your torque curve nice and flat all the way up there you'll have a huge hp increase, higher top end, bigger rpm range to mess with.... several benefits

I can hit 3700 RPM pretty easy and I believe 3900 is the max though. I definately loose boost etc immediately when I hit that. I spun mine up pretty hard one time and saw it jump above 4000 for a split second between shifts. I believe our PCM shuts it down around 3700-3900.

If it shuts it down at 3400 like Tim said I must have programming that lets mine go further because I can easily go above 3400. My power really starts kicking in at 2500 and increases drastically up to around 3600. I believe if I put a map regulator on there I could go further. Mine is just a daily driver but a fast one. I don't run her up that much very often though.

I kind of wish I could go above 4000 at times because it has so much acceleration above 3000 RPM it feels like it is just getting started, then when I hit the top end of 3000's it just shuts down.

I hear ya Neal, with my stroker it really comes alive 2700+.

I know this isn't a powerstroke, but I used to work for a guy that had a MF 2805 with a V8 in it. You had no power below 2500, but man she would scream from 2500-3600. I'm sure it's the same way with our strokers?

Who's making the common rail system and what do you all know about it? Cost, hp numbers, availability?

Mechanical 7.3s ... P-pump your Powerstroke

Nobody is making the common rail setup. They are being fabbed up by people.

As far as cost.. I'd look around 15,000-20,000 by the time it's said and done. Not to mention the hours upon hours to get the timing down.

It's been discussed before about getting a pump from a v8 MACK and fabbing up a system.

the common rail system, i hear the programming alone is about 3k, the system itself... well over 10k... claimed over 1000hp easily with the setup, and availability is limited, but if you got the money you will be able to get it.... and as to WHO, i've never been told a name, but heard from a reliable source that it's a big name in the powerstroke world

Luke- 4500??? holy crap! where does the pcm start limiting pulse width? does a chip change that?

I cant remember when it starts dropping pw at, maybe 3200 3300 rpms. A chip will not help that, it is a hardware problem.
