ya can get a brand new 6.4 from ih for 25k just add fluids and power

i ran across one a oil field company had that was wrecked a standard cab single wheel 2wd that they wanted 15k for i almost bought it

although if this new 6.7 comes out in a couple years a bunch of surplus 6.4's may show up.....

the cost of cg has come way down since its gonna be a superior process and it takes less energy to make and less time sitting to make it ready to use

to answer the original question, i've downshifted into 2nd too early and hit 3600. that thing sounded like it was going to fly apart.
4K? I would think you'd have damage...
What's the point of going to 4K? I thought the injectors couldnt get oil fast enough to make that work right? Ex: incomplete fueling...

What about the Pulse for the hpop? They claim to fulfill all the needs with that rig?

I've never had my truck up that high before...

I think it's just that the pulse width is too short- the oil being at a certain pressure can only come in the solenoid so fast.
Maybe you could just get bigger solenoids?

the only thing to get our trucks to consistently be able to run 4000rpm (injector firing wise) i think would be a new oil system

big oil really does help on gettting them to spin faster but one of the big things is valve springs!!

and pushrods!!! basically all i'd need is.... valve springs, pushrods, big oil, and new tuning and it should be pretty much fine

I think there's too much work to build the engine to roll over 4000 consitantly.

What about temps at that range?

ive spun mine to 4500 or so, but taht was with the built engine. PCM wont allow full pulse width at that rpm though, so not much power.

Oh, is that all?
I dont think temps would be that big of a problem. you'd be spinning it so fast that you'd get less fuel and more air. (I would think)
Luke- 4500??? holy crap! where does the pcm start limiting pulse width? does a chip change that?

I'd imagine that a programmer can change to pulse width. I remember reading somewhere that the 7.3l could handle 4400 r's for a period of time. For some reason I want to see it was with marine applications. However, I'm probably blowing smoke on this one.

i would have to believe that is in a marine application.... i've definitely heard of issues with about 3600 rpms
