juneau76 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Pro 5-0, they have been sent. My email was acting goofy, so let me know if you don't get both emails.

Thinking about getting a diesel pickup but not sure on which one yet - would anybody like to send a newb these spreadsheets so that he can decide? Thanks!

Spreadsheet

Mark, et al.,

New user, just registered. Could I get a copy of the spreadsheet you speak of? My email address is jeffrey.lock@navy.mil. Thanks in advance.

In addition, My '04 F350 has had some issues, not sure if anyone else is experiencing these but here goes:

- Turbo replaced at ~24k miles
- Tailgate paint bubbling (rust/corrosion inside on the bottom) vehicle was just over two years old and had lived in southern California. Tailgate replaced by dealer, new tailgate 2.8 years old same problem.
- Passenger side door paint also bubbling (rust/corrsion outside bottom fwd and aft)

I am the original owner, wax the vehicle twice a year. I do tow a 11,400lbs trailer (rv), not so much lately, but used to tow subject frequently.

Not all bad stuff though. On the highway, at the speed limit, get roughly 21-23mpg. Will tow anything I put behind it (within specs) up just about any hill/mountain faster that I should probably go. The vehicle is entirely stock. Have 45k miles on the vehicle and the original tires are doing great. Have conducted all recommended maintenance and then some.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I am sure the collective "you" will let me know.

Regards,

Jeff

Jeff - welcome to FTE. Lots of good info here.

I have sent the spreadsheets. I have not had a lot of luck sending them to military email addresses - maybe the security systems?? If they do not go through, you may have to open a free yahoo or google mail account to receive them.

As far as your truck issues are concerned, you are better off starting a new thread with a proper title. Not too many of the experienced forum members look this one over anymore (no need for them to). The paint issue is probably better mentioned in the "SuperDuty FTE Forum". This forum is specifically for 6.0L engines and it is a smaller population of Superduty owners than the SuperDuty Forum.

Personally, I have not read about recurring paint issues on the 6.0L trucks. I did have issues w/ Ford paint on a 6.9L truck, but not this one. Again, maybe the other Forum will provide some help.

As far as the Turbo goes, it is not uncommon to have Turbo issues. The vanes of the turbo (like inlet guide vanes on a jet engine) will carbon up and the unison ring that moves them will stick (and rust).

To keep this from happening, Ford made some modifications in the 2007 model turbos. You should also continue to keep up w/ the proper fuel, filters, and maintenance intervals (as you have said you do) and also:
1. Occasionally drive it w/ some hard accelerations (after warming it up of course).
2. Limit the idle time
3. Consider using a fuel cetane booster (I use Stanadyne)
4. Synthetic oil (5W40) is best for turbo bearings if you are prone to shutting down rather quickly after towing (with EGT's above 450 degrees).
5. Pull and clean your EGR valve - maybe even replace it (if you haven't already).
