help!

I am new to the diesel (and the forum) world so please be patient with me. I am interested in a diesel 3/4 ton pickup to tow my 8000# camper. I have an F-150 now with the 5.4L and when I tow I get about 8MPG. Not to mention any incline or hill in the road is like hitting a brick wall. The truck I was looking @ is a '03 3/4 ton crew cab 4x4 with 180,000 miles on a 6.0L PSD. The truck is imaculate and the previous owner states he never towed with it. He is asking $10500 for the truck. Shoud I be concerned about this many miles? If so what should I be concerned about? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Mdbrant and TX Silver,

just sent them to you. let us know if you get them cause we've had some problems sending them to people who don't have a yahoo, hotmail, or gmail account due to the size of the attachments. if you don't get them or only get one of them let us know so we can get them both to you.

ptraver,

i personally wouldn't buy something with that many miles but that is just me and my preference. you might want to post that in it's own thread and let others chime in on what they think!

I'm looking at buying a 2004 F-250 with the 6.0 to pull my travel trailer. Am I crazy to buy the 6.0 or should I try to fing an older 7.3? I have heard a lot of folks say you don't want the 6.0 diesel. Please send me any information that you have on the 6.0.

They've been sent.

I have a guide in one of my spreadsheets for buying a used 6.0L (tips to find a good one). Buying a used 6.0L can be a VERY good deal. They do have some weaknesses that require some specific maintenance. If you do not want to spend any time doing preventative maintenance, then you should look for another vehicle IMO. I am partial to the 2006's and up due to the improvements that were periodically introduced. They also tend to have warranty left. Some of the improvements probably reduced power, maybe even reduced a little fuel economy, but were meant for reliability.

There are MANY people driving 6.0L trucks without problems. I would not over value the threads on the problem trucks. No doubt there were problem trucks. No doubt some people abused their vehicles or failed to properly maintain them. Either way, "buying used" (and have some cash set aside to eventually install reliability mods) can be a way to get a VERY reliable, powerful, and enjoyable truck for way less than the $45k - $50k that some folks paid!.

Let me know if you need anything else.

It would be best to start a new thread on this. Once you do, you will get a ton more help. That being said, it sounds very much like a High Pressure Oil system issue (either the STC fitting or a leak somewhere else, or a pump issue).

Monkie, they have been sent.

Edit: One of the files is extremely large (8MB) and it came back to me. Do you have a gmail, yahoo, or hotmail account that you can use?
