Exclamation wheels out of balance

my truck runs smooth from 0-50 mph but at 55mph it feels like a tire has a bad belt or unbalanced but soon as i reach 60mph it start to smooth out again should i have my tires checked out???

Not to hijack your thread but mine does the exact same thing, only it's from 35 to 40, so i'll be interested in hearing any replies.

Tedybear is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
We hit just about 55 and the steering starts to shudder and shake a bit. LOL. I'm planning on pulling the front tires and running 'em down to FireStone and asking for a balance check.

Yeah know? One thing to check would be rocks/dirt/mud that builds up inside the wheel rims. It wouldn't take much to throw it out of whack. One van I used to drive got stuck in the muddy sinkhole we call a parking lot. Right up to the door jambs. Had the local shop use a power washer to get all the rocks/dirt/mud out...it couldn't go faster then 45 without feeling like it was going to shake apart.

Bad tire balance will be felt mostly in the steering wheel unless it is way out then everything will shake. Often rotating the tires front to rear will fix the problem.

Get in the habit of "inspecting" your tires EVERY TIME you walk up to, away from (if you can) or by your vehicle. I've spotted a few nails that way, so the flat fix is in the drive & not on the highway.

Check the tires for condition, flat spots--lock 'em up lately?

Check rims for dings, inside, out.

Check driveshaft for bends, dents.

When you take for balance, have them check the wheels for true (or you do do it, just jack it up and spin using something fixed to the vehicle to look for rim wobble) and run out. Think the factory gives a rip about true wheels? Not as much as you.

Good luck.
