Ok, but he stated he moved the sensor in and out of hole. It wasn't very hot then or so I would think. Also wondering what type of probe mount he is using. Mine is drilled and tapped so moving it in and out isn't much of an option. If he is using a clamp type, I am wondering if the probe itself is making a good ground with the manifold. I am not sure what ground wire he is referring to, unless it is the ground for the leds in the gauges.

The probe on mine goes into a compression fitting thats tapped into the manifold. It lets you adjust the depth of the probe so you can get the tip near the center of the pipe.
