hi, does any run a machanical oil pressure gauge on their 4,2. if so can you please give me the readings to compare with mine.
cold 60 on start up-
hot 55 psi at 2500 rpm (as per the book) and tickover 10psi minimum.

I use an electrical type of gauge,

60 at start up
50 at operational temp
25 or so at idle.

All my trucks will get real OP gauges soon.

 

Theoretically,you should have 10 psi for every 1000 rpm.

I'd be happy with the numbers you posted.

 

hi, thanks for all your advice, i have been busy of late so sorry for the delay.
it was a loaded question due to me having issues with what appeared to be very low pressure at tick-over. since owning the truck i have never used 5-30 oil as recemended until the last oil change. this gave me cause for concern due to lower recorded pressure through out the rev range.
gone back to 10-40 oil and all is well.
i could have lived with the 5-30 if it had not been so low at tick-over (7-10psi) when motor was real hot.
blueovalfitter 10psi per 1000revs sounds good but my motor happly ticks over at 600revs so this leaves tick-over on the low side.? but the good news is that with the ac fixed and turned on it has brought the tick-over up to 750rpm and the oil pressure up also. thanks bokker.
