Exclamation never seen this before !

so here I am, coming home from a dusty days work when, whadda-you know, my 42 up and quits 2 blocks from home! she backfired and just quit! I ALMOST got embarrassed! had to tow her home. left he stranded in the drive until the next morning and at 6 am, was already tinkering. I thought the points fried, and that it misfired, so pulled distributor and low and behold----- the cap had actually cracked between the coil tunnel and #2 wire post, causing ALL current to go to #2 cylinder!!! yep, it's a crab distributor, american made cap that's only 2 months old. I've seen carbon tracking that will look like a spider web, but NEVER seen a cap crack like that!!! now i have to wait 3 days for a new cap to show up, so i guess i'll have to get out the polish. oh well, if it wasn't for the weak moments, i wouldn't appreciate the good ones.

Check into Fordbarn.com in the EV8 discussion board, you might need some better components...IIRC I recall them talking about some foriegn stuff that didn't hold up...might be spending the extra $$ for tried and true stuff, can keep you happy for a long time.

I've got a '42 also...stuffed in the back of a barn somewhere soaking in deisel oil to free up the flatty.
