Getting the whole motor assembled by Carl is definitely a step in the right direction. You can also talk with Lem and Charlie Evans over at BF Evans Ford Race Parts . Go to the "Our Customers" page about 1/2 way down and you'll see a certain 88 Ford ranger that used to be running around (sad days....). Your c6 is more than able to handle that motor, but there are some things to do to it to make it truely bulletproof. Get in contact with Frank Merkl out of Alberta, he knows the c6 inside and out. You can build it up yourself with a little patience and the right tools. Read through this link for things to look for:
Same goes for your valve body, either talk with Frank as he make a killer manual valve body, with or without a transbrake if you want to race it. For you stall converter, talk with Scott Johnson out in Tacoma Washington as he can get one made up for your motor.
Axles, with a built big block and really anything over 35's, and even with chromo shafts, unless you are using that truck for straight line mud drags, the 44 and 9" won't hold up too long. If it's not a full on mud race only truck, do yourself a favor now and just find a 60kp front and either a D70 or 10.25 rear. Put the money in them and you will be much happier in the long run.
Look at me, I'm actually admitting that the d44 and 9" won't hold up to high horsepower and big tires in the long run........ Kris, I think you are rubbing off on me........

seems like his prices are decent too, if you do decide to get a crate sounds like hes the way to go, as for the axles, with that much power and 35s you may be pushing it, usually itd be ok but thats a pretty powerful motor, if youd rather just chromo the d44 then do that but itd personally say get a D60 to throw up front, then either a D70 or sterling for the rear, and why are you only plannin on running 35s? you could just get a small lift, break out the sawzall and run 38s, then of course youd definatly wanna upgrade to a D60, if you gunna do it might as well built it right the first time
EDIT: well ok then Karl got to it before me but you get the idea, get the D60

actually for a TC don't call a head porter just call a torque convertor builder that knows something (scott is just a middle man on those, he just calls the TC builder with the info you give him and then sells you the product, I like scott but call the right person for the right job) Personally after using several differnt ones I ended up using Edge, they have a couple tech guys and one of them is an ex mud drag/bogger that knows how to set one up for use offroad with your engine.
And yes even I will admit that in anything other then straight line mud drags a D44/9" isn't the best setup, but IF and I mean ONLY IF your doing straight line a D44 WILL handle plenty of power.

Rob,
True, I was just think Scott because his prices are decent and he's a straight forward, stand up guy that won't steer you wrong if he can help it. But you are right about calling the right person for the job. There are so many converters floating around out there, and you hear good and bad about each of them, it's hard to find the best one for the right application. Which is why I thought about Scott as he knows the BBF motor and can give recommendations on the right stall he'll need for the motor setup. A few of the converter guys I talked with before I bought mine just wanted to sell me a standard off the shelf "custom built" converter built for the strip and didn't understand about my torque needs in mud. Scott spent a little time with me on the phone to get me in the right direction for my purposes, good guy to work with.

Dont buy an "off the shelf" engine from Carl if thats not what you want. Give him a call and tell him what you want to doi and what youve got to spend. He can build nasty stuff for the right amount of money.
At the moment Im glad I backed out of a 545 deal. 6 months from now maybe I wont.
I have a SCAT crank and everything else was bought from some people that I know that are WD for a lot of big companies like JE, Eagle, Ford Motorsports, etc....
