carburetor

I have a 77 f350 460 4bbl
I just noticed that the air filter hold down is stripped inside the carb.
Is there a way to fix this without removing the carb or replacing it?
I was thinking about epoxy but did not know if I put it into the threaded hole would it make its way into the carb
thanks steve

As far as I know, the threaded hole is isolated from the rest of the carb. I may be wrong though. Try using a flashlight to see a little better. Only use the minimum amount of epoxy if possible. Just remember that it will be hell to get out if you ever need to.

There might still be some threads at the bottom of the hole. I would go to the hardware store and get a lenght of 1/4 X 20 threaded rod and see if it will screw into the carb and then just cut the top off at the appropriate lenght.

Good question there too lol. Mine either doesnt go in at all or goes in straight, no cross-threading.

BTW. This is what i have now (sorry if off topic)

Ok x79f100x, I gotta ask, where did you get that fancy hose?

Also, that is one nice looking truck.

I got the whole setup on the Hot Rod Power Tour by Spectre Performance. They let me display the truck by their trailer the whole tour. Thanks for the compliment BTW.

Yeah, deff. make sure of that. Make sure you aren't (somehow???) cross-threading it.

I just got the truck, so I dont know how it got stripped.
but I am pretty sure it is. I took the top off and tried threading the screw in alone, you can feel the threads but they dont grab. It runs fine so I didnt want to remove the carb if I didnt need to.
So.. if I use epoxy I am not all that worried about ever removing it , if the carb ever needs work then I will pull it and replace the part or whole thing.

thanks
steve

i dont know, but id have it tapped to a 5/16-18 and get threaded rod and a wing nut. you wont over tighten that threaded rod or wingnut by hand. JMO.
