Throttle Plate Stop - adjustment

What is the factory setting for the opening of the EFI throttle plate when resting against the stop screw ? How sensitive is this adjustment ? Or is a gap of some kind just necessary to keep the plate from sticking in the bores ?

1989 F150 5.0 Thanks.

you are not supposed to adjust the throttle plate screw.

I just thought that after 18 years of driving that it might be interesting to see if it had changed...and...it would be fun to check the actual measurement against the Ford Spec. I was reading another thread where the throttle plate gap was being discussed....that's what brought this to mind.

Yea it is non adjustable and no reason why it should change over time unless the tension spring on the screw is gone. The very tip of the stop screw could have slightly mushroomed over all that time with the return spring snapping the plate back, but that would be an undetectable amount.

One other possibility or concern would be if you bought it "used" and some bone head could have turned it thinking it was a idle adjustment before you had bought it.

Not sure of the exact adjustment but it should be fully closed but not touching so it can't bind up and gouge into the body. The IAC allows air in when its fully closed.

Danr1,

Thanks for picking up on this question. It would seem to me that as long as it doesn't stick in the throttle bore, that it should be okay. The normal "mushroomed over" wear that you describe probably isn't significant anyway. Have a good day sir.....

If it isn't supposed to be adjusted it wouldn't be an adjustment screw. All such things are meant to be adjusted and calibrated.

that screw is an adjustment for your idle setting, there is a process that has to be done to set the idle correctly, screwing it in or out without setting it properly usually sends the computer of into ga ga land.
