Ready to rev 4.9 to the moon and watch it fly in the explosion...
I've got one of the worst 4.9's built.....
It has a mis-fire that will not go away.
(been there almost the whole time its been in the family since '92.)
Heres what been replaced after it sitting for about a year,
catalitic converter,
plugs,
wires,
ran octane booster and injector cleaner through it,
with new fuel filter.
computer goes stupid all the time, wont throw a single code.
but when I get in it,she'll rev pretty good after running for about an hour.
when its running you can hear a ticking and exhaust from the rear and in the exhaust you can hear the cylinder firing late.
im ready to just run this truck into the ground after all the other work it needed. hell,it needed almost a whole brake job done because the front calipers would stick then release constantly. and when they stuck,it was as hard as they could get. fried the front brakes off, littleraly. they crystalized.
When you mention the computer not throwing codes, do you get a pass code or no codes at all? No codes at all might be a bad computer or bad wiring to computer(no ground).
sounds like both a bad computer and possibly the timing is off. I imagine you would need to pull the spout connector when timing the efi 300-6 engines just like the V-8's. you have a great motor/setup, we can help you find the bug. wooosawww
The miss fire that won't go away. Is that on one cylinder, or does it move around? If it is on one, have you done a compression check to see if that cylinder is out of spec? Have you ever pulled the valve cover to see if things are moving as they should be up there? Broken rocker, bent push rod, collapsed lifter, all will result in a dead cylinder, along with a burnt or bent valve and a host of other items.
