Im guna have to back down and say your all right its a dam head ace to try to do it my way I allways make things harder on my self. I was looking at my truck this morning and some budy put ford power steering box on this thing the box is so close to the header it looks like its part of it now and the bracket holding the lower part of the box sits so low the leaf spring hits bolth the box and bracket only allowing 2in of suspension travel what a dummie. I cant even lower this thing without correcting all that. Whos got the best deals on this mustang front end? will i have to remove my motor?

havi is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
I would say without seeing the PS box, that you are correct to think it all has to be "re-engineered" to get it lowered. To start over would be a safe bet, and to go with the MII, there are others on here who can help you. To keep the engine in, I dunno, but oil pan clearance would be an issue. ONe thing to note, that when you buy other people's projects, there's a reason....they did something wrong and want to unload it....the saying around here, is "don't be that guy."....we like to see them finished. Good luck

In my opinion if you want to upgrade to an IFS then you need to remove the engine and all the front sheet metal to allow you to get to all the areas that will need to be welded. You will need to remove some existing items. You will also need new motor mounts and new steering linkage as well as some boxing plates to stiffen the frame at the new crossmember. It is major surgery, but the results are worth it if you want a modern suspension with power steering, power disc brakes, etc. More than a days work.

M II install

Jniolon also has a well documented Mustang II install.

Removing A Volare ClipandInstalling a Mustang II IFS Unitby John Niolon

Very good narrative with accompanying pictures of removing a Volare and installing an M II.

It appears the best and easiest way to install this is to have the front end stripped of everything to allow access. I wouldn't want to try to install one with the motor hanging there in the way.
