any suggestions for GOOD shocks?

my truck currently has some crappy shocks. They are yellow in the front, looks like monroe shocks, red in the back, not sure what brand.

At any rate, they feel like they are just oil being pushed through a hole, with no valving to speak of. They suck. They ride too soft on the highway and too harsh over bumps.

Does anyone know if bilstein or any other good brand name makes a high quality shock for our F-100s?

I have a 71 F-100 2wheel drive.

Maybe OEM ford shocks for newer model 2wd F-150s or 4wd rangers are close?

Rancho and KYB are what I see at most vendors....I have been shopping to replace mine as well, though...most that Ihave asked have said something along the lines of, "Doesn't matter what you use, it's still gonna drive like a rock...."

I doubt thats true, I bet if they had a good properly valved shock they would change their minds! The valving of the shock has a lot to do with how it rides over square shaped bumps, how the shocks react during braking, cornering, high speed drops, etc.

I had Rancho RS5000 shocks on my previous truck. They were way too stiff to be comfortable on the road.

KYB "Gas-A-Justs" are licensed Japanese copies of non-adjustable Bilsteins. They are more harsh in the beginning, but they soften up after about 1-2k miles and I've never had a problem with them. I've run them on my minivan and Valiant (don't snicker too hard; it is a well-built,all-around street/performance car). My wife's S/C Regal runs Koni's that are adjustable. Even better, but double the cost and their availability for older rigs isn't too great. For my F-250 I plan on using KYBs' due to the "Bang-For-The-Buck" principle
