worse mpg with DP?

So I installed the dp tuner on my dad's 96 work truck. Stock he was getting 14 in all city driving with about 1500 lbs of tools and what not in the bed, with the occasional towing of his bobcat backhoe and trailer dont know the whole combined weight. So I installed the dp with the single 80 HP econo setting (he didnt want the other settings just for work use). And after one tank it went up to a little over 14 something like 14.7 not very amazing of a boost. Then next tank it dropped to 13. Now he's mad at me becuase i swore to him that dp is better then the rest. And so my queston is, is this type of flucuation normal or could there be a possible problem?

Is his foot in it a little bit more with the 80 econo? What else does this truck have for mods. Need more information here.

Is the truck stock otherwise? An 80 HP tune needs an intake and exhaust to realize it's full potential. He definitely does not need to be towing a backhoe with a chip and without supporting mods. Especially if it doesn't have an EGT gauge.

I would change oil and look at your fuel pressure. Just a few options

I could see why it's getting worse mileage. The stock intake and exhaust setups are "poor" to begine with on stock settings. You add some programming and you can really see the problems of the stock intake and exhaust setups.

Put in a DIY 6637 mod and do a 3" downpipe and I bet you'll see in increase in mileage and some throttle response.

Stock intake = crappy .... stock down pipe = more crappy stock exhaust= functional but crappy. Combine all that and there's your problem.

Get a 6637 fileter setup in there, loose the factory down pipe, and take the kitty to the animal shelter. Bet it'll go up then.

If you're towing an a regular basis ... don't expect 17 be happy with 14-15

Check the codes.. When I did mine, it messed up the Back Pressure Sensor. I cleared the code and it seemed to help.

I would definitely go with the 3" downpipe. If you have the funds, go the whole nine yards and get the rest of the exhaust.
