Amen. This is a truck, the core design has not changed in any real sense for decades. Exception-engine, fuel injection, electronic ignition, ECM and so on have vastly improved the motor department. People who want 'em don't care that they changed the look of the front grille etc. Yeah you can always fiddle with the interior and some creature comforts, but save us all a buck, keep the price point low and sell us what we want. Tell R&D to go find a sedan they need to work on. And no, we don't need side air bags either.

The problem IMO with the ranger, is that they have been basically using the same exact frame from 1983. The ride is not the greatest, the payload and towing capacity behind the competition, and the interior is a bit on the small side

Yeah, aerostar chassis was better with rear axe on coil springs. Runs much smoother. But when aero was discontinued this unique chassis dissapeared.

Now they want to use Ford Transit chassis for newer vans and truck for US market....

I would buy a Transit Connect for a work/commuter vehicle. It would be nice if the US would get the diesel models.

The Aero star chasis was pretty much the ranger frame formed into a unibody.

I'm not sure if it is much different the current explorer frame

Given the present price of diesel fuel, I have a hard time understanding why anyone would want a diesel powered vehicle. The diesel's mileage is certainly not high enough to offset the high cost of the fuel, and the power characteristics and smell aren't the greatest either....

Yet another person stuck in the past. The mileage offset IS still high enough to offset the $1 more per gallon. Diesel trucks and cars get 50-100% higher mileage then their gas counter parts. Diesel would have to cost between $7-8 a gallon before it would not be worth it.

The power band of diesels was only an issue on non-turbo mechanical injected diesels. New multi-turbo direct electronic injection injection diesels have a very very good power and torque curve.

Smell is opinionated, I personally think gasoline powered vehicles smell pretty bad, and with the new DPF and NOX absorber, diesels have practically no smell at all

Not sure diesel is panacea. Look, in EU 10-15 years ago desel was twice cheapper then gas and many diesel cars and small trucks appeared, Now diesel is the most expencive fuel.

Gasoline engine is easy to convert to CNG, but EU now has no gasoline engines for turcks and some companies build CNG engines, like MAN, Deutz and Mercedes based on big diesel engines, but loosing horsepower.

Seems to me internal combastion engine age goes to its end, like steam engines dissapeared from railroads in 60-s. To many alternatives are more available from day to day.

EU limits CO2 emissions, but human population produse less then 5% of CO2. Cars produse about 0.25-0.3% of CO2. Cows prouce more CO2 then cars!!!!

Ford is debating keeping the current ranger through 2011. It will be replaced by the new world ranger being developed in Austraila in 2012. If your wanting more power like the japanese, don't look at the ranger, the 2012 model will be 4 cylinder based with a 4 cylinder diesel option. It will be the same size as the current ranger if not a tad smaller. However, the new F-100 will have a V-8 option and be up to par with the mid sized japanese trucks, but the ranger is to stay a compact p/u, maybe even more compact than it is now, but I'm sure it will get the crewcab option next time around.

Ford doesn't only own a piece of mazda, they own controlling interest in mazda. It 's concidered one of ford's PAG companies. I still see adds for the F-150, they are offering them at employee pricing, plus 3,000 to 5,000 dollars rebate. Now would be the time to snag an F-150, all though the 09 is supost to be reworked.
