Sounds like your injection system is fine. Carbon on the injector is completely normal as long as its not too much. Just a thin layer less than 1 mm is what you want to see and no obscene uneven chunks. If there is slight brown and grey in there as well thats also a good sign (indicates a good fuel burn).

Did you notice any fuel leaks in all this? I would think there would be some dripping if the return line had a loose connection.

What I thought was a slow oil leak from the back of the pan was actually the fuel running down the back of the intake and block and washing the grease off. It's hard to get back to that return line (banks turbo) so it wasn't obvious right away. All the injectors looked real consistent which is a good sign....not alot of build up on them.

Ive seen how some people use a elec. pump with the stock lift pump inline...I had a 77 f250 with a 400ci. (same lift pump, as the diesels) and the pump diaphram whent out as I puled in to work, = 8 houres later= I came out to a eng. block full of fuel, so bad that gas came out the spark plug holes...long story short .....big fire ...and lots of replacement wiring...not fun

The return line (hard line) from the I/P that runs along the inside of the driver side valve cover. At the back of the engine (under my turbo) there is a brass fitting w/2 nipples that connect the return lines from the injectors. This hard line is also bolted down at one of the intake bolts. When I fab a new one up, I'll move the return line fittings forward to make them more accessible.

yes i was thinkinking of placing a brass t in there with a steel hardline going to tank. right now there is a brass line coming off IP going toback there where passenger sider return line goes under back of manifold into that T then exits to tank via the plastic line. Those rubber compression seal for the brass line don't look to sturdy to me.

yeah i got the pos started! there is an air leak somewhere on the supply line. I ran the fuel supply from a jar bled it out and it started sounded good too. But i still had the return hooked up to the tank and it went through the fuel in the jar in 60 seconds.

I'm using a 6.9 IP pump on it will that cause any problems??

The nylon platic stock lines are cut is there anyway to put them back together without leaking??

How many miles can these engines get. Truck looks like it was abused but engine ran good . it has about 240k on odometer if it even works.

On the front tank there is a hole. on top not the sending unit does anyone know what goes there?? I have to plug it up somehow.

thanks

one more question

No disrespect here but are you sure the air has nothing to do with starter turning over too slow?? It was turning over way too slow but once i got the air out the starter was working like it should. Just something i noticed.

Also the jar has to be above tank level or the mechanical pump won't suck the fuel up just FYI.
