Rear Axle Oil Seals

I have an 82 F-100 4x2 that I am redoing the bearings on. I pulled out the axles changed the bearings but cannot find anyone that stocks the oil seal that sits inside the axle shaft. It feels almost rubbery on the inside and yet has a metal exterior. Any one every come across this hand what did you do to remove it and replace them.

I believe you are talking about a pinion seal. I just put a new one in my F350. I had to tear up the seal to get it out. But you can use any combination of a screwdriver, chisel, punch, and hammer and pry it out. There should be a lip on the outside, if you can get a screwdriver or chisel down there, then you can pry it out that way. I bought my seal at a local auto parts store. Most of them should carry it, Autozone, Speedway, or Napa.

The seal I am talking about is on the outer part of the axle shaft housing away from the differential. It sits next to the axle bearing next to the drums.

The seal in the link above is called a "rear wheel" seal.
