thanks and when i test ohms on my multi it goes in increments of 2 ex 200 2000 20k 200k . so if i test something that should fall in the range of 20 to 70 ohms and get reading of 36 do i times that by 2 since the 200 hundred is twice as much as 100? weird kinda question dont no if all multi are like this or not mines a craftsman i believe

No the 20K setting is just more sensitive for reading smaller a value, values under 20K.
So if you're looking for a value of say "70K" use the 200K setting. 70K at the 20K setting should show "OL" (overload) or "error" depending on the meter. So bump up to the next higher setting and or "range".
