Good cheap paint

I am getting ready to paint my truck so I called the local auto paint store and just about fell out of my chair when they told me the price. They said the single shot polyurethanes are the cheapest and quickest way to put paint on. They also said enamels and lacquers are a thing of the past. So, their base color paint (black) without hardner or reducer was $50 a quart. Is there a cheaper way to go without using rustoleum?

Well if the truck is an old beater like mine then do what I did. Buy tractor paint.

Enamel paint is fine, very messy but fine and you should be able to get the paint for your truck for under $100..
Read the labels/directions good.

IF two hundred is too much then what are you going to do about prep. The primer and filler to even up the body will coast as much, I suppose what I am saying is if you are going to paint do it all the way THEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF. If you are just going for temporary rust cover then go flat black and hardener.

First attempt at painting and went the cheap enamel 3-4 yrs ago, lot of prep, and paint now fading and needs to be done over again. Not sure if possible to apply clear coat over epoxy enamel, I did not and may be the reason paint not lasting. O well, abused it for 35 yrs. before painting and must admit it was one step removed from the salvage yard, but it's my work horse, used on daily basis for hauling concrete mix, and contruction type material, and as I tell my wife, it's good enough for the women I date.

Cost me over 900.00 for my paint and supplies - this was for good stuff but not the best and we had some stuff. Guess its one of the reason it costs about 5000.00 to have someone else do it. I sure learned a lot these past couple months, one being.... ITS A lot of work!

Mines not done yet, you can see the progress here.

Speaking of a $50 paint job ... My olde '65 was repainted with a roller and some non-skid deck paint that I got from a friend after he redid his boat ... No chips or cracking as it is a really flexible paint ... Noone wanted to lean against it either ...

We offer a variety of colors of Single Stage Urethane at good prices. These paints do not need to be clearcoated, but can be if you want.
