ET gains with gt40 heads, BBK & basani exhaust

All,

After running the truck for a few weeks to make sure everything was together right, I took the truck to the fri night drags for a few passes.

Here what I got:
(all runs normally aspirated with 10 deg timing)

Stock best ET 16.856 sec @ 79.080 (1995 w/ 15K miles)

After adding gt40 heads, BBK shorty's, Basani Y pipe w/ cat, xcelerator straight through muffler:

Best ET 16.557 @ 81.680

So I gained about 3 tenths in ET and 2.6 mph. Initially I was disappointed, I was looking for a half a second gain, but after I started plugging the numbers into some HP calculators on-line these numbers are suggesting hp of 260 at the crank with about 210 at the rear wheels. 50 HP gain seems a little optimistic, but thats what the hp cal are saying. even if I gained 35 hp with the mods I'd be happy.

I have to keep reminding myself that this is a 4900 lb truck and not a mustang where the same mods may have yielded a .5 sec gain.

for those of you with desktopdyno, I'd be curious to know what it says my HP is and also if it says the cervini ram air hood make a difference.

looking forward you your thoughts.

Also, as soon as my msd6BTM box gets back from msd I'll put the blower on and head for the track. hoping for mid high 14's.

Best,

Yeah.. 50hp is more than reasonable from better heads and a free flowing exhaust. You are nowhere close to realizing the full potential of the heads with the stock truck cam, the 5.8 will still produce good TQ with a 270 deg cam, a blower cam like the Comp 35-351-8 would certainly help get the most out of it, that motor could make over 300hp before forced induction.

yep. I know, i should have did the cam while i was in there, but the cam and related components would have pushed me over $3K and my CFO would have had an absolute fit. all in due time.

oh I for got to mention, my mpg in town jumped from 12 to 14.6. I'll take it on a business trip from Columbus to Indianapolis on the 15th and see if the hwy mpg is also up 2-3 mpg. hoping for 16-17 mpg.
