couple questions about a 1997 f250 5.8L old style

hi i was wondering if any1 could tell me what eec computer i have. i have to ground out the single slot to get my check engine flash codes. i believe the computer is located near my left foot and goes thru the fire wall under the hood. not positive but saw something with a bunch of wires but i didnt want to seperate the harness to see how many pins there are. current koeo codes are 327 622 then the saved codes are 172 and another 327. i read that u can reset the saved codes by grounding out the sti and then in mid code read undo ground and then start and drive 10 miles. did this and nothing changed so any info on these problems will be great thanks.

You have an EEC-IV computer, same as all the '87-96 F and E series, this motor and body style was carried over through 97 on the HD trucks. Ford Fuel Injection has info on the codes. The one you need to address is 327, it related to the EGR system, a faulty sensor, broken vacuum line, or leaking EGR valve or tube is causing this code and producing drivability issues I'm sure.
Code 622 related to the tranny, could be a wiring issues on the outside of the tranny.

the eec should be behind the ash tray/radio on the firewall

Nope.. it's in the drivers side kick panel, but access is via the engine bay.

thanks guys im erasing the codes now to see what is still relevant. because i fixed an exhaust leak. hopefully the 172 code will be gone going to see what happens and take it from there. when working on the exhaust i came across a wire harness above(possibly attached to the tranny)that wasnt plugged in so i plugged it in and nothing seems to have changed performance wise. any chance this was not supposed to be hooked up and is giving me the 622; thatd be great
