f-250 buzz/wine sound batt/alt prob

Hello,
To start i have a 1995 f-250 with the 351 and a manual trans. I bought a little ford aspire to save on gas and now the truck doesn't get much use. The truck has been sitting for a few weeks and last night i went to start it and it was dead. I jumped it and it started just fine. I let it run for 5 min or so and decided to go to the gas station and fill her up but as i jumped in and started out i noticed a buzzing or wining sound coming from the dash. I could hear it best as i put my ear up to the radio itself. It sounds like the radio picking up the wipers sound (if you guys have ever heard that) I turned the radio on and off and the sound did not change. Also i noticed a burnt plastic or rubber smell. Just like something was getting hot under the dash. I backed the truck back in and shut it off. I then tried to start the truck again and of course it was dead. I jumped it again and it started right up. The sound was gone. I decided to take it down the road and as i got to the end of the drive the sound started coming back and then the smell. I ran it down the road anyway and brought it back to investigate. I left the truck run while i investigated the sound and smell. I could not pinpoint the sound but i sure sounds like its coming from the radio. The truck had been running for about 35 - 40 min and i shut it off and tried to restart and it was dead again. I left it at that.
