C6 Starter ear broke off Help!

The ear broke off or widdled away and I can't figure out how to fix this. Any ideas? I am wondering if a new plate would help since it's broke. Anything but replacing the trans.

The starter turns but it is not contacting the flywheel so it just spins.

Got rust?

Looks like a removal and find someone who can weld and "machine" the mount back to the oem configuration. Might be tricky, as old, work-hardened aluminum doesn't like to be bothered.

Other than that, it's new case time.
