my 06 is a 5.4l it has 2 1/4" I chopped it off in front of the Y and installed a pair of cherry bombs with turns out in front of the rear passenger tire, sounds great and was less than 250 bucks with custom mandrel bends at a friends shop, then I did the install. OH I did go to 2 1/2" but the O.D. was 2 1/4"

here is how I did it, i need to find some nice tips for it, I was liking the square tip look but once I hold them up to it, I didnt like, so I am thinking about some 3" round slanted it sounds great for 1/4 the cost of a kit lol

No problem, what I did was use some extra pipe I had here at home and made a mock up of what I wanted, then I took it to a friends shop and he measured it up for correct angles and did the bending with new pipes, then I took it home and welded it up, the cherry bombs are 2 1/2" and I believe they were 29 inches long, the longest I could find 20 bucks each, my tips come out in front of the tire at a 60 Deg angle. there are pics on my photobucket for you, I could try to take some more if you need, there isnt much to it. I did weld some small pieces of metal to both tail pipes so they dont wobble around and get crooked as well as I ree used my old Exhaust mount at the trans crossmember and the one at the frame in front of the tire, then put a new extra sturdy ,mount on the inside cherry bomb at the rear as well. Very Affordable system, like I said I have about 240-250 bucks into it here is the pics in my photobucket

hey Shawnstang, you removed your rear cats right?

and are you sure about the exhaust being 2 1/4"...because my trucks is 3" up to the "Y", and then it necks down to 2 1/2" all the way out....well it did until I installed my catback

if you're already spending $200-250 bucks, it would be better to get a good muffler. Cherry bombs aren't exactly subtle...unless you are only after raw noise

its 2 1/4" pipe on each bank from the factory, no I didnt remove rear cats. its cut off at the front of the joint on the drivers side and removed at the clamp to passenger side. the mufflers were only 40 bucks. rather than 50-60 each for what everyone else has. I guess

I took these today after work so you can see what I did. I had a hell of a time with a clamp on my passenger side behind the cat. I would like to be able to remove it anytime but the clamp kept leaking so I welded it closed for now ( so dont laugh at my weld ) I wil lreplace that with a new section and a better clamp when I have free time again ( in about ten years )

Keep in mind you can keep all of this within the heat shields if you use mufflers like cherry bombs that are a long straight through style. Edelbrock now has a sweet set of new mufflers like this too, but I put my money into my other trucks exhaust ( where it belongs )
this pic os from the rear of truck in front of rear axle looking foward

this is same location looking on the top of it, notice I retained my factory Exhaust mount, just cut it off the oldp ipe and welded to new

this is the trans crossmember exhaust mount, I did the same here as with the other mount. the pic is a little dark but its there

someone asked me about the O.D. here is the old pipe that goes into the muffler

this is on a 2006 F150 XLT crew cab 5.4l FFV with a 6.5' Bed a 5.5' Bed might be completely different as well as the 4.6l Exhaust may be different I cant say for certain

Looks like a pretty tight fit with 2 glasspack mufflers... i couldnt imagine how cluttered and stuffed it would look with 2 full sized mufflers stuffed under it, not to mention the PITA it would have been to install them with enough room for everything else that has to go on under there.
