Hi,
I'm putting an on board air system in my truck & I need a York style A/C compressor with the serpentine belt instead of the V belt as most are found with. ANYONE know what application this compressor would be on? I need either a York 10R or York 10L....

I can tell you the way you should go is to look for (mid 80?) and up Mustangs that came with the serpentine belts and then look for the A/C compressors.

The problem is the big Yorks came in big cars, not small cars, and the V belts turn one way, the serpentine belts the other way (cw/ccw). So, you need a pump designed for a serpentine belt. It is not as easy as just switching pulleys.

There are companies that sell serpentine conversions for Mustangs and large Broncos. Look in a magazine such as Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords as a starting point.

The R and L just stand for which side of the compressor manifold the inlet and outlet tubes turn to. York compressors as in compact compressors(the type in our trucks and big cars) will run in either direction to pump air.As for the clutch and pulleys, after you find a good compressor and you havent got the serpentine pulley you want you can buy a new one and install it. I suggest you find the smallest pulley you can get so the motor will put out more air at idle. There is a good article in the Tech Forum for additional information.Good Luck and have fun.

 

 

Check with a freightliner dealer. I used to maintain a fleet of 12 with series 60 Detroit engines. The 99 and newer trucks came with a serp. drive. All aluminum compressor, iron crank. They were about $220 for a new replacement. They were usually good for about 18 months/225,000 mi. Cluthes did interchange if you have an older compressor. Cluthes were about $80. Hope this helps.

from all of my reading it does not make a difference what direction a york compressor turns. It is best to mount it standing straight up so that less oil is blown out the discharge of the compressor.
