Autometer Wiring Question

The idiots that put my gauges on the truck sucked it up big time. They ran them too short, so there is in my opinion, way to many splices and connectors under there and i think they mixed and matched the wiring size. So my question is, what size wire should it be, and would this account for my somewhat high pyro reading? Gonna take them out and redo the wiring this week

jmaskew is starting off with a positive reputation.
I used 16 guage wire when I installed my gauges. After I cut the source wires in half I had to extend the wires a little so I could fit the wire connectors. They work fine. Check out my gallery, I added a couple of close up shots of the wiring I did.
