Removing smog pump from 96 F250 351W

Well My dads truck (1996 F250 2WD 351W 5-speed) siezed up its smog pump again (i replaced it with a used unit 2 years ago and now it siezed again). Anyways i would like to just get rid of the smog pump all together. I looked at how the belt routing is and it looks like i can just get a shorter belt and put it back together completely bypassing the smog/air pump. Just wanted to see if anyone else has done this and had luck. I have read lots of other guys with 5.0L's and 300's doing it with no problem. What about my dads windsor tho? I read a post about a guy with a 95 E250 that someone said you cannot just remove the belt. The tensioner pully looks like it wont have the belt wrapped around it as much... but it still looks that it will apply enough tension to a shorter belt. anyways...

The cat(s) are already long gone and also there is NO emissions where we live up in canada.

Possible?

For my truck when I perchased it the previous owner had done this but the tensioner wasn't doing anything. the had just got a short enough belt and streched it on there. I bought a smog pump eliminator from summit and got the right size belt. I looked on there site and didn't see one for your truck but I also do not know how ur belts routed. good luck

894fseries.... I ended up doing what the previous owner of your truck did... just stretched a shorter sized belt on there till i found one that fit perfectly. The tensioner barley does anything to tension the belt, but the belt was small enough to fit tightly over all the pullys. Hopefully this will be a temp fix and work long enough till i can buy a new smog pump, or the eliminator kit. (if anyone makes them for a 351W EFI)

the belt was only $20..... so cheap fix for now... untill the belt stretches enough to start squeeling/fall off.

So the belt fell off... now my dad just bought another truck lol

He got a 2002 F-150 XLT 4X4 FX4 with a 5.4L.

I got mad at him for buying a 1/2 ton... and a truck with IFS front suspension... but guess it should be a decent truck for him as all he does with it is highway driving and pulling his boat around.

Good news is now I have myself a new to me 1996 2WD F250 5.8L on propane that just needs a air pump lol.

What do you guys think about his new purchase? It just seems like a downgrade to go from a 3/4 ton to a 1/2 ton.... but i guess

he paid around $15 000 canadian from the dealership. Under 80 000 miles on it.
