Smile computer codes wont read

hi all, in addition to my big v10, i also have an 89 f250 with a 460 in it. i know this question really doesnt belong in this forum, but i have been in here long enough to know that there are some extremely smart guys in here, so i will ask. anyway, the 460 just died on me this morning going down the road and wont start at all. it turns over fine. i put my ford code scanner on it and nothing will read at all. when i turn it on, it makes a couple relay noises but thats it. naturally i dont have a service manual for it because that's what the code reader book says. "if codes dont read, please refer to factory service manual for no codes troubleshooting". anyways guys, any help would be appreciated. thanks, matt. i have also posted on the big block 460 forum.

Check for power to the PCM - does the check-engine light come on when you first turn the key on?

Sounds like the PCM doesn't have power, or is otherwise hung up - is there a chip in/on it?

And, the big question, is the code reader going to work on an '89 Ford PCM?

the only light i see on on the dash is the battery light. it stays on. the code scanner i have works on all 87-96 ford f series with the 7.5 so it says on it. it is a ford code scanner. thanks art.

Did you ever figure this out? The check-engine light should come on when you turn the key to ON. Unless the light's blown out, that means the PCM isn't getting power.

I have no idea, Matt, just throwing it out there that if the light isn't lit, there's something missing power-wise. Pull the lamp, or, pull the connector to the PCM and put power to the light and see if it comes on - or hookup another light to the PCM directly. Or something.
