GELGIN58 is starting off with a positive reputation.
Simple test to see if it's a vacuum leak.With it running spray some choke cleaner in the throttle body. If it smooths out you have a leak somewhere. My guess would be around the carb base gasket

ok your were all right I had a vacuum leak. i changed the oil fill cap sealed the other side of the pcv system, got some vacuum caps. then i systematically unhooked and caped vacuum line until i discovered a hose that didnt affect the engine when i removed it. it was hooked to the choke pull off module. so it is caped off till i can get a replacement. after all this i was able to open the choke without stalling the engine. THANXS FOR STICKING WITH ME ON THIS. the choke pull of module i have on this carb is the same one that was in the carb that was put back on after the rebuild. the whole time it was bad.

little things are a big pain at times, I was leaning towards a leak around the EGR valve, if you had one. JNT
