Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF

Have any of you folks, with an automatic (5r55e) transmission, used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF? I've got the 90,000 mile service coming up, and am going to do the whole deal to my transmission - 1,000 mile Auto Rx treatment, pan drop & filter change, flush & new fluid. I have always had the tranny flushed every 30,000, with Mercon V, at the dealer. I've been doing some reading, and this seems like it would be a good "upgrade". Any opinions/information would be helpful!

From the Mobil 1 website ...

"For many GM, Ford and import vehicles. Recommended for use in vehicles specifying:

Dexron III, Dexron IIIE, Dexron III-H

Mercon, Mercon V

Recommended for Allison C-4 and Caterpillar TO-2 applications

Recommended for Chrysler automatic transmissions

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is designed to meet the demanding requirements of modern passenger vehicles. The synthetic base oil composition enables excellent performance even in the severest of operating conditions. It offers outstanding gear shifting and power transfer performance. Versus conventional ATF fluids, the inherently high viscosity index and stability of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF protect against thermal breakdown at high operating temperatures, while still providing outstanding performance at very low ambient temperatures.

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF combines high-performance synthetic hydrocarbon base oils and a superior balanced additive system to provide significantly higher levels of performance above conventional fluids. This unique, advanced technology has demonstrated long drain capability, excellent friction retention, and low-temperature capability. Further, it helps to improve overall transmission durability and cleanliness.

Automatic transmissions should be checked for proper fluid levels at regular intervals, and the fluid should be changed at manufacturer-recommended intervals. However, this may vary due to your vehicle's operating conditions. Some manufacturers recommend more frequent changes of transmission fluid under severe driving conditions, such as heavy traffic, hot weather and trailer pulling."

As long as it says it is Mercon V rated , synthetic will reduce heat in the transmission due to a little less friction, is more resistant to viscosity breakdown and tastes good too! I use the Mercon/DexronIII (recommended fluid type) rated product in my manual and I seem to have less metal particles in my fluid (red instead of silver/gray) it was gunmetal colored when I bought it and after 3 changes one regular and 2 syn it has gone 5, k miles and is still red (I have only had it for about 10,k miles so far)

I use Mobil1 ATF in my '97 Taurus' AX4S tranny because it was designed for Mercon, and not Mercon V. I have always liked Mobil1 as a Mercon product, but I'm wary of the claim that it is now also Mercon V-rated. Personally, I don't like the idea of using anything other than strict Mercon V in my Ranger's 5R55E. I'm suspicious of the so-called "dual-rated" fluids, based on my experience with Valvoline's Durablend ATF several years ago.

I use mobil 1 oil and have for years and love it. Anytime I can change to a synthetic fluid I do so. In my manual trannies I've been running royal purple.
