B2300 cam shaft position sensor-stuck screws

Need to replace the cam shaft position sensor on my 1994 B2300. When I tried to remove the screws, I found them to be firmly stuck. Had a similar problem when I replaced the DIS module and broke two of the three screws-don't want to do that again.
Anybody have any suggestions about how to get the screws out without breaking them?
Engine runs fine except there is a constant "Check Engine" light and continuous memory code of 214. It also will not run a KOER scan because the scanner cannot identify the engine as a 4 cylinder.

I have considered that it might be simpler if I could pick up the CID identification from the CKP sensor and connect it to pin 5 of the ECM. That should wire the truck as a 49 state legal instead of Calif legal. I think that would turn off the "check engine" light. Any thoughts on this or know for sure if this would work? Would that also make the KOER work again?
Thanks........Ed
