Oil puddled on top in the #2&3 spark plug port -2.3L

Just when I get one thing taken care of on this truck, something else pops out of nowhere to stump me - again. I bought a used 2003 Ranger with the 2.3L 4 cyl. It began missing and running rough - especially under a load. I started pulling the spark plugs to check them out, and when I put the socket down into the #2&3 ports to loosen and remove, oil was puddled ON TOP OF THE PLUGS. Nothing on the #1&4. Anyone have any advice? It's not like oil is getting up into the plugs but from above! Do you think it could be the valve cover gasket leaking?? I need help - PLEASE! TIA

Thanks JJ,
Sounds like you've been there. Any thing too difficult about removing the valve cover? Looks like you have to remove a few things to get to all the bolts. Not particularly looking forward to it but has to be done.
Thanks again for the part no. info.
