highboy transfer case brace

I remember reading some where that the high boys had a brace from the transfer case to the frame for more strength. I looked on my 74 today and didn't have one or any spots on the transfer case that looked like one would go. does anybody have anyinfo on this

Is your truck a 4sp or auto? I've seen a lot of the auto trucks with that brace and that might only be on the full time 4wd trucks.

My 74 is a 4 speed with a 205, and it has the brace.

They only came on the automatics, why this is i'm not certain, if anyone knows it would be interesting to hear why.

Just reread your post flcracker9, is that factory or did a p.o. install that? i've never seen them on the NP435 highboys, only the C6 highboys.

I've never seen one a 4spd that someone didn't install themselves, seen em on every automatic i've ever come across, though manual highboys out number auto highboys like 8 to 10.

I've seen some on "untouched" 4 spd trucks. But after 30 + years who know is if they are or not. Don't know why ford didn't put them on all the highboys.

I just assumed they all did, Everyone I have been around has one. I have not looked under the 4spd parts truck at my dads place. All the others I have been around or worked on were autos.

Is your brace riveted to the frame? that would certainly indicate it's factory if it is.

Hey Crewcabwannabe, take a look in my gallery. I'm in the process of restoring a 75 F250 that has the C6/NP203 combo, and there are some photos of the crossmember and the bracket that the T/C brace goes to. They aren't the best pictures but it might get you pointed in the right direction.
