New 83 f150 owner w/ a few questions...

Just bought a pretty nice 1983 f150 with a 4-sp manual and smallblock..not sure if it is a 302/351..but it gets up and goes!! runs great.... my fuel gauge ounly goes up about 1/4 and stays their..possible bad sending unit ??...and trying to figure out which tank is main and which is aux tank....when i hit the little toggle switch on the lower dash by shifter ..nothing seems to happen if this is even the right switch......since the gas gauge isn't working can't tell if it is switching tanks or not....

81-F-150-Explorer is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.81-F-150-Explorer is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Front tank is the main tank, rear tanbk is the auxilery.

The switch is located on the heater control panel on the right hand side.

The sending units on this model of truck is notorious for going bad. When you lower the tanks you can check the fuel gauge by grounding out the wires (connect both sending unit wires together for a breif moment) and seeing if the gauge raises beyond a quarter of a tank. If it does the sending units or the floats are bad.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.
