Yay... Oil pressure issues, again....
Well, here goes, I freshened up my 460 over the winter after tearing it down in the fall due to very poor oil pressure(30 cold idle, about 12 hot, mains were done, over 250K miles on 'em, and it spent last summer racing) I just rolled in new STD bearings(rods and mains,) and put in a new set of rings. Bearing clearance was between .0010 and .0014, which according to Ford is pretty dang good. On initial startup, I had 65 psi cold, and 35 hot @ idle. Now, with maybe 1-1.5 hours on it, I still have 60 cold, but, after it reaches O/T, it slowly drops off to the point that I have 10 psi per 1000 rpm, never any lower, and it increases with rpm as it should. No noises out of the engine, it just isn't very confidence inspiring. I'm running 15W40 in it with an FL1-A
I'm going to change the oil and filter tomorrow and see what happens, and cut the old filter apart.
I only need to get the summer out of it(I plan on a stroker for this truck) but, at the same time, I don't feel like blowing it up. It'll probably be OK for trail riding, but, I don't know how comfortable I feel spinning it 6000 rpm when I'm racing(mind you that only happens when the fuel delivery keeps up... LOL.) I'm kicking myself that I didn't just build a stroker last winter like I had initially planned to do.
I'm more or less just venting, but, if anyone has any ideas, I'm more than welcome to suggestions, I just really don't feel like pulling that engine again until the fall.

It's just going to take a while to get used to seeing the gauges sit where they do now, back when this truck was my DD, the stock gauge sat very nearly maxed out all the time... LOL
I shouldn't have any fuel contamination, no mechanical pump on this unit, but, the fuel pump did get left turned on until the battery died after we initially re-installed the engine and fired it. The oil level was fine, and there was no obvious smell off of the dipstick. I'll see what I find in the morning though.

well, changed the oil out, and ran it some more... same results and nice clean oil... I'm thinking that I may have cam bearing issues... I was going to yank it, change the cam and do the bearings last winter, but I never got around to it. My oil pressure issues started a year after I changed the cam, but, it only ran maybe 30 minutes the year I did change it... YAY
