98 ranger ac shutsoff

I have a 98 Ranger, 5 speed. The A/C will work fine when I first start driving, but if I get on the throttle the A/C will cut off and it won't come back on. I am aware of the WOT relay and that the A/C should come back on. I've checked the charge of the freon, it's fine. What other switches effect the WOT relay? I'm assuming the computer comands the relay. This usually happens after about 10-15 mins of driving. No other A/C or heater problems. Thanks for any help.

Welcome. Are you sure it isn't a problem with the airflow? When you say the A/C cuts off, do you mean the air stops blowing out of the vents?

See for example: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/453196-heater-ac.html

No, the air blows, no problem with the fan. The compressor shuts off, it will reset after a few mins, with the switch in the off position or if the truck is shut down and started back up after a few mins. When this happens, and I switch the selector from A/C to any other position, if the compressor doesn't engage the RPM's rise.

Check out the new HVAC FAQ in the HVAc forum. While intended specifically for the F-series, it will also cover most things for the small-bodied trucks.
