Can i see the difference between a 4R44E and a 4R55E ??
Sorry to ask what may be a dumb question. im fixing a 2000 Ranger 2wd with a blown 4r44E trans (3.0 V6) . I know of what may be a good deal on a newly rebuilt trans. The thing is the guy doesnt exactly know what he has. Its out of the truck in a box. Does the 4R55E (4.0 v6) have a different bellhousing bolt pattern than the 4R44E? any other visible differences?? Did the 4R55E come in 2wd and 4wd???? I just want to make sure i know what i am buying.
Thanks
Mark
PS -- i normally hang out in the 48-60 F100 section.

If it was my truck I would get your old trans rebuilt. You know what is wrong with it At least how it acts) and what parts need to be replaced. If you get another trans, you don't know what is or was wrong with it, or what was replaced. You can also easily get rebuild kits and upgrade parts for your old one, which don't just fix the trans, but make it better. It is much cheaper to install upgrade parts in your old trans than to get a new or rebuilt trans which doesn't have upgrade parts, and tear into it to do so. The upgraded parts are not significantly more expensive than the basic parts.
Or you can buy a pre-built upgraded tranny.
