Rebuild or crate ?

Rebuild or crate ?
I have a 99 work truck that has a cracked cylander sleeve. My dilemma is do I rebuild this one or do I just get a crate motor. This motor has about 60 k on it ( truck has 280 k ) The previous owner drove the truck hard. I don't realy want to dump a lot of money in a work truck that hauls a few pieces of equipment and a dump trailer. I can get a crate motor droped in for around 8,500 but I havent checked on a rebuild yet. Just looking for some input from some of you that have been down this road. Thanks

i just put a remmaned crate in mine... It was worth every penny. But this is my personal truck. I would not have done this for a work truck... I do know that by the time they pull the motor and spend time fixing the cylinder your price is already getting pretty high... My new motor came with a 2 year unlimited mile warranty wich made the deal even better... Seems like it would have been nice to have that on your motor thats in there with only 60k on it... Just my 2 cents Good luck on making a choice....

If just the block is bad, and everything else is good, you can get a rebuilt shortblock, transfer over your old heads, push rods, valvetrain, injectors and pumps, and you're back in business. I found a line on ebay about a rebuilt short block for $2500, which is an AMAZING deal... That's what im doing with Stroken's truck right now in my shop, but we are building it up a little
