1990 f-250, passngr door won't close tight

Does anyone have any experience with a passenger door that no longer closed compleytely tight. While driving home yesterday I heard a large rattle comming from the right hand side of the truck. I ended up finding that the door was not pulled closed tight into the weather stripping. It looks like it is shy of being closed by about a quarter of an inch as viewed from outside. It is not open as far as if someone did not close the door completely, that would be much further. It happened all of a sudden so i don't think it is an adjsutment, it is as if a spring or something broke in the door latch mechanism. I know zero about these, how much effort it is to replace, and if it is a dealer, after market, or junk yard item.

Any comments would be gratly appreciated!

Check your hinges first, See if you can wiggle the door up and down when half open. If you can your hinges need help. If not the door latch pin(on the jamb) may have gotten knocked out somehow.
Good Luck

Just had to repair mine on my F150. It's pretty easy to do. Check your door lock striker (where the door latch makes contact) and see if the plastic roller is still there. Check the other door to compare. Most parts stores like Advance Auto carry this plastic sleeve. You'll need to remove the actual striker to install the new sleeve. Be sure to make a mark in the door jam where the striker is located before you remove it that way you'll be able to line in up when your re-install it. Take a look at item # 280240128793 on e-bay to see a picture of what the complete striker looks like to help you. This is not your actual stricker but, this is what they look like. The grey area is the plastic sleeve that normally breaks so, you'll get the idea of what I'm talking about... Good luck!!

Dukernc, Thanks so much! I just walked out to the truck and checked and that was it exactly. The existing bushing just crumbled into my hand. I checked the one on the other door and it would too suffer the same fate. I was resigning myself to having to replace the latch assy but you saved me. I just no have to see if I can find just the bushing w/o having to replace the entire striker. I wonder if the dealer will sell just the bushing or do they sell only the striker assy?

Thank again!

Ham-n-swiss, NP! You should be able to find the bushing at any good parts store like, Advance auto or NAPA. If you go to the dealer they only sell the complete package for about $24. Now, you can also go on-line to like fullerfordparts.com and get the complete assembly for about $13. I just picked up the bushings at Napa and I was good to go in about 10 mins. Glad I could help and good luck!
