Add On CD Changer in 93 SC

I have a 93 F150 SC. Just bought an add-on CD Changer for it. I've been able to install a changer under the passenger seat in all of my other vehicles but no-go in the F150 - there isn't enough clearance (heightwise) to install it there.

I installed it over the tranny hump but I'm concerned that it's in plain sight and may wander away.

Suggestions have been:

1) Hog out some of the foam on the bottom of the seat cushion... this only works if you need an additional 1/4 inch or so, and I think I need about 1 full inch.

2) Add spacer to raise the seat.

3) Buy one of the kits to raise the rear seat and install it there.

4) Buy, or build, a floor console that would fit over the tranny hump and allow me to hide the changer. Anybody seem anything that would work?

Any comments or other ideas?

Thanks

At least enough to offset the risk of losing the changer to theft. Plus it looks really bad hanging from the dash and it's in a vulnerable spot with respect to getting kicked...etc.

I myself think the best thing to do would be to raise the seats, maybe about 1-2 inches(Just to be safe). I dought it would be too noticable, and I'm sure it might be cheaper than a floor console. However, if you decided to add in a disk while you driving alone, you'll have to pull over and stop(of course). One thing I wonder about the console is how easily you can get to the changer?

I'll admit I'm no expert on car stereos, but I would prefer the seat raise instead of the console cover.

What about the glove box? I had a 6-disc in the glovebox of my honda and it worked real well. That of course depends on your changer/glovebox dimensions.

Hi
I'd tend to go with Dust3 on this one .Safety is a little more important than a CD changer (not much ,but a little)

The glove box is too small to fit the changer.

I decided to get a kit that raises the rear seat 3 inches, which gives me a total of 5.5 inches of clearance - more than enough to mount the changer under it...

Even though it's a lot more work, and another $110 dollars, I figured this was the cleanest way to fix the problem. Plus I get the extra in-cab storage space.

With a 10 disc changer the fact that I'll need to stop the truck to access the changer is a minor inconvenience.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll post a follow-up after I get everything wrapped up.

Just thought I'd post a follow-up just in case someone has a similar question in the future.

I bought the 3.5 inch Hi Rider kit from LMI Welding

http://www.lmiwelding.com/ (no affiliation just a satisfied customer)

I seems we designed, heavy gauge metal...etc and gave me the 5.5 inches under the rear seat I needed to mount the changer.

Still plenty of romm to store other stuff too!

Overall, I think this was the cleanest, if not the cheapest approach..
